Standard Public Consultation
After a 19 months stakeholder process including partners from business, agriculture, civil society and with support of public authorities, the EWP Water Stewardship Program has formulated the first draft version of the European Water Stewardship Standard, which is now ready for public consultation. This Water Stewardship Standard aims to provide water users in Europe with a tool to verify, certify and to award their efforts towards Sustainable Water Management (SWM).
In accordance with the Code of Good Practice for Setting Social and Environmental Standards of the ISEAL Alliance, the first draft of the Water Stewardship Standard is now published for a 60 days public consultation. Comments of all interested parties are highly welcome and will be followed-up by the coordination of the EWP Water Stewardship Program.
In parallel, companies and enterprises in industry, agriculture and urban areas are piloting the draft standard with the aim to test its applicability under their real on-site conditions.
This public consultation process represents an opportunity for all stakeholders with an interest in water to reflect on the draft Water Stewardship Standard and to support the development of a tool for Sustainable Water Use in Europe. The draft standard and referring glossary may be downloaded here and comments may be submitted ONLINE. Please consult also the executive summary of the draft standard before giving your comment!
Please note that the deadline for submission of comments is 12th of September 2010 and that all the comments should be provided in English.
A summary of the outcomes of the consultation will be available on the EWP website.
