Today is the final day of the DESIRAS project. Within DESIRAS, seven partners work together to test an innovative technology to reduce water consumption in irrigation on three farms and different crops in Cyprus and in Spain (Guadalquivir basin). DESIRAS is supported by DG Environment, as a pilot project on development of prevention activities to halt desertification in Europe.

The public’s views will help to formulate the policy proposals to be included in a Blueprint to Safeguard Europe’s Water Resources planned for the end of 2012.

The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day.
Each year, World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of freshwater. This year&#8217;s theme is <strong>&#8220;EVERY DROP COUNTS &#8211; The Water Challenge</strong><strong>&#8220;.</strong> Over some 40 sessions, the conference will focus on water. This valuable resource needs to be used properly and sparingly, making sure that we have enough for all of its uses, and avoiding polluting our rivers, seas and oceans.
