Sustainable Development Goal on Water: Business as Usual in Brussels?
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted in 2015 represent a unique opportunity to unify efforts around a shared definition of success and a set of common global goals and pathways to a more sustainable future.
In 2016, countries turn towards implementation of the SDGs and trying to identify priorities and focus joint efforts. The EU is expected to outline its approach towards SDG implementation in June 2016 including its action on reaching SDG6 goal of ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
The conference highlighted the importance of the SDGs for the EU to focus on water and its cross-cutting challenges and provided examples of implementation of the SDGs that go beyond business-as-usual and bring about transformational change.
