Climate Change Adaptation
The EU Climate Change White Paper sets a legal framework to deal with Climate Change challenges in the future, including the definition of an EU Strategy for Climate Change Adaptation measures to be ready for 2013. Climate Change is also one of the three pillars of the EU Blueprint Communication to be released in November 2012. EWP is being supported by the European Commission to carry out a stakeholder consultation to feed into the Blueprint Communication, and the Climate Change Adaptation Dialogue Platform will contribute directly to this this is repeated.
EWP has in the past actively facilitated discussions on Climate Change and Adaptation. Based on the results achieved and additional research, the EWP is launching a new initiative that will focus on the linkage between the energy and water sectors in terms of adaptation measures. Realising that adaptation measures are usually implemented by the water sector, and mitigation measures mostly in the energy sector, the EWP aims to merge both sectors’ different experiences with Climate Change into a common dialogue.
The aim is to contribute to the Climate Change Dialogue with results that are complementary to existing actions and groups dealing with Climate Change in the EU and in the framework of the UNFCCC. EWP inputs will include views, recommendations and challenges being faced by both public and private sector actors dealing with energy-water related issues.
