The project

INNOWATER is a public-private partnership that aims to facilitate innovative water business and industries to deal with existing obstacles to enter the market and reach and exploit their full potential. The project is supported by the European Commission – DG Enterprise and under the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP).

The consortium consists of 14 public innovation agencies, water associations, technology specialists, innovation experts and eco-innovative cluster organisations from Belgium, Denmark, Cyprus, Spain, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. The main goal of the project is to develop and test new and better innovation support tools for innovative SME’s and first user industries in the water sector to promote the development and market uptake of new technologies. Secondly, the project aims to facilitate active matchmaking between the innovators and the first-users.

Among the countries that are participating in the project are both typical ‘water technology developing countries’ and countries that can be seen as ‘technology adapters and importers’. This enables INNOWATER to address the full innovation cycle and implement activities for both technology developers and industrial users.

The partnership started on 1 February 2010 and will run until 31 July 2013. A presentation of the INNOWATER project can be found here.
