European Water Stewardship

What is the European Water Stewardship?

The European Water Stewardship (EWS), program is now in full run dedicated to advancing Water Stewardship and responding to the  growing need for robust and credible water risk management around Europe. Water authorities and businesses in food & beverages, chemicals and even airports are using the EWS standard to assess, verify and communicate responsible Water Stewardship practices.

EWS responds to the need for a tool to meet the goals of EWP’s Water Vision for Europe and to achieve compliance with regulatory measures developed by the EU set out in the Water Framework Directive and the Blueprint 2012. In line with this, EWS focuses on water sustainability and resource efficiency at river basin level, as water users agree that they share their water resources in the same way they share other national or regional concerns. For more information please see the EWS Fact Sheet.
