Water Named As One of the Top 3 Global Risks
Jan 21st, 2014 |
According the the World Economic Forum, water has been named one of the top 3 global risks. The Global Risks 2014 Insight Report states that “Water crises and extreme weather events have been identified by the World Economic Forum community as two of the top 10 global risks. This is hardly surprising, given the devastating impacts of having too little water, or too much. While water’s immediate impacts are often local, water security is now recognized as a systemic global risk”.
The report also stresses that not only water quantity, but water quality is a concern. Water quality incidences increasingly affect company operations around the globe, disrupting production and affecting reputations, even where careful management has been ensured.
The World Economic Forum also acknowledges that responding to this global challenge cannot be done alone, rather “successful water management needs the cooperation of a wide network of water users, public and private institutions.” See the following link to download the full report: http://reports.weforum.org/global-risks-2014/.
