Agriglobal-New Platform for Solutions in Food Sustainability

The Agriglobal process is dedicated to identifying practical solutions for sustainable water management in food production. The concluding event for 2013, the 2nd International Agriglobal Congress, was held at the heart of the world-leading international exhibition for Agricultural Machinery and Equipment, the Agritechnica 2013.

This congress, organized by the Chamber of Agriculture of Lower Saxony, the Oldenburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Oldenburg Chamber of Trades, serves as an international platform to exchange on practical strategic solutions to address water challenges in food production at regional and global level.

The event draws from recommendations identified in previous cross-sector expert exchange during preparatory workshops. Here, EWS Director, Sabine von Wirén-Lehr, reported on the best-management examples and recommendations elaborated at the Water and Agriculture Workshop.

Event presentations and international discussion panel echoed the need for solutions for water management, not only in the agricultural sector. Strategies involving all water users in hydrological area, while incorporating the regional and global policy context is a  priority in implementation. Participants acknowledged the barriers for farmers, while focusing on practical and concrete solutions. Amongst them, the benefits of water stewardship!
