Workshop on Water Vision in Vienna, 26th January 2009

Jan 12th, 2009 |

On 26 January the EWP, together with the Austrian Chamber of Commerce and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management will organise a Central Eastern Europe regional workshop on the Water Vision for Europe. The workshop, taking place in Vienna, Austria, will focus on receiving the region-specific input in the text of the Water Vision for Europe.

The preparations for the Forum are reaching its final phase and important parts of the Forum are the policy inputs from the main regions in the world, including Europe. The European process towards the Forum is coordinated by the European Water Partnership and includes preparation of a regional event in Istanbul as well as a regional document with policy recommendations on water in Europe. Additionally a Water Vision for Europe was created by the European Water Partnership within its Aquawareness programme and developed together with a large group of stakeholders presenting a Future of Water in Europe. A consultation process has been launched by setting up regional workshops across Europe with the aim to gain region specific priorities and needs. The aims of this Central Eastern Europe regional workshop are:

  • to disclose something region-specific priorities for sustainable water management in Central Eastern Europe
  • to elaborate the status quo – which vision aims are already covered through projects and activities
  • to analyse the missing or overlapping actions
  • to identify main obstacles to the implementation of the vision goals

Finally the results from all regional workshops will be added into the Water Vision for Europe as region specific points and will be presented during the Forum.
