EWP & partners kick off the DESIRAS project

Brussels, 28 February 2011. On the 21st of February, the European Water Partnership (EWP), DACOM, Plataforma Robles, the Cyprus Organic Farmers Association (COFA), Arissandra, Ecozoe, Atlantis Consulting and COWI launched the DESIRAS project in Peristerona, Cyprus. The DESIRAS project was recently awarded to the project consortium by DG Environment of the European Commission for pilot testing prevention activities to halt desertification in Europe. The project will pilot test an innovative irrigation technique on three farms in Cyprus and Spain, within the framework of the EWP Water Stewardship Scheme. The EWP will also take on the general project management of DESIRAS, which will run for 15 months. At the meeting the stage for the project and its management were set. The day after, the set up of the technologies started at Arissandra farm.
